Ambassadors at their Audience.

Single page from “The Universal Traveller: Or, A Compleat Description Of the several Nations of the World” by Mr. Salmon, printed for Richard Baldwin, London, 1759. The image is probably after the work of Joan Nieuhof whose 17th century views were amongst the earliest reliable reports of China. Nieuhof was traveling as a member of a Dutch East India embassy eager to establish trade relations with China.
