Arthur Blythe’s passionate and fiery alto is heard here in a fascinating setting with the richly mellow cello sound of David Eyges providing a striking contrast to Blythe’s keening, soaring saxophone improvisations and drummer Bruce Ditmas giving subtle and energetic support. This is an innovative album of freewheeling improvisations deeply rooted in the blues – a powerful and piquant combination of the traditional and the experimental.
