Freddie Borden’s Share (cartoon)

Newton McConnell (1877-1940) worked for the Daily News for 26 years, 15 as editorial cartoonist. He was one of the most prominent and popular cartoonists of his period and one of the first to be syndicated on a regular basis in Britain and the U.S. as well as Canada. He was also one of the first cartoonists to use a trade mark a small dog named Spot – often as part of the cartoon; here “Spot” appears begging on the left side of the picture. Sir Frederick Borden (1847-1917) was a physician, businessman, militia officer, and politician for whom Camp Borden was named.
